My oldest book in my collection is Rose Wilder Lane's "Let the Hurricane Roar". It has been renamed I believe in the 70's to Young Pioneers. As a Little House fan I was very confused when Charles and Caroline had a son Charles John. I soon realized it was very much fiction with inspiration drawn from the Ingalls story. I must say the raw struggles portrayed in the book brought tears to my eyes. Very well done, I would most certainly recommend you give it a read.
